'Tis summer (at least in this hemisphere). Time to tap the trigger, and after, kill a keg. Or something like that...
Two interesting contributions from visitors to the 303 Page.
First, Black Powder in a 303? Well, they did it that way first, and while recipes are hard to find, Wayne sent a recipe (and a winning one to boot!) Congratulations Wayne!
Well, what about wood? Could I be talking about the classic Scandinavian Teak Chair to butt stock conversion? The famous Canadian sporter stock made using maple scraped from the heads of Libersal politicians? No, although the idea has merit.
How about Shiver Me Timbers. Lithgow Lumber for the SMLE. What the Aussies used to keep rifles from sinking in rough seas.
It's August and I'm suffering from the heat! I won't be undersold! No REASONABLE offer accepted!
Load data, headspacing & gauging info, reloading tips and the No 4 Maintenance Manual (voted the most read book in my bathroom!) all at www.303british.com
It's a wonder you're not there already, 'cause I'm not "there" at all!

Thanks Stephen;
That picture was taken near Silverwater Manitoulin Island.
My dog and I walked the perimeter of the small pond and it wasn`t until we went nearly full circle that this mallard jumped a good distance away from us.
I got on the call and continued to call as I watched the duck enter the stratosphere and disappear from my sight.
Less than a minute later the duck reappears and I call it down in front of us where I dust it`s ass and my lab makes a grade "A" retrieve.
Just another one of those days where you don`t think you`re going to see anything.
Having the pictures allows me to relive these hunts time and time again.
My black lab is gone now and I really miss him, he was an excellent duck dog.
I`m in the process of training another pup right now and I`m looking forward to dropping that first duck in front of him this September.
Is this your first hunting dog?

The barrel steel is pretty heavy, I really enjoy shooting this shotgun in flooded timber.

Braden, you're not taking into account the (lack of) receiver on your O/U. Add 6 inches of bolt for a S/A or pump and you've got quite a long gun.
I'm a O/U and S/S fan myself, particularly for rabbits and upland game. However, I went out and bought a 1300 pump w/28" bbl. because I won't shoot steel out of my doubles, and I refuse to pay exhorbitant prices for bismuth and composites.
What do you shoot in that old O/U?

Grunting works great for me. I've killed at least 3 deer with my xbow that I can definitly say were grunted in. One of my hunting parteners almost got mugged by a 6 pointer last year during the rifle hunt after blowing his grunt tube. No experience with rattling, so I can't give any advice in the department. As for types of grunt tubes, get one that can make a variety of calls (i.e. doe & fawn bleats, mature and immature bucks). Be careful with the mature buck call. I've seen it send smaller back running with thier tail between thier legs.

The guy that manages the beach comes down and tells us not to get too far down the beach because he says there`s a huge black bear hanging around the park.He said it came out of the bush the other day, walked up to his car, jumped up and put it`s paws on the windshield. There goes my wife ...!
Another bear has taken up residence in a populated area on the east side of town. The police seem reluctant to shoot them this year because of all the criticism they faced from killing every bear they responded to last summer.

Try to take them after they have passed over your head and you can shoot after turning around, either that or coming straight into the decoys. You may find that a 22 inch barrel gives up a lot when your swinging on a bird, that is why most waterfowlers use a longer barreled gun, as far as velocitys and such, it won't make a difference, and who knows if your used to the short barrel you may do just fine. my favorite bird gun is an old winchester o/u with a 30 inch barrel. It swings very smoothly.

In Reply to: Duck/Goose Gun posted by John on July 29, 2000 at 12:12:00:
Modern smokeless powders burn in the first 13 to 16 inches of the barrel and maximum velocities are obtained in the first 20 inches. Shot will carry the same distance regardless of the barrel length. Shot pattern will be the same whether the barrel is 21 inches in length or 30 inches in length, if the barrel has the same choke constriction.
Our experts state there would be a small variation in velocity when using a 21-inch barrel as compared with a 30-inch barrel; however, the variation would be immeasurable.
The basic advantage of a shorter barrel is that it will swing faster. The longer barrel gives the hunter a longer sight radius to be more precise, particularly when pass shooting waterfowl. Also, the longer barrel can often help balance certain shotguns better.

I have a question for all of the knowledgeable hunters on the board. I just purchased a winchester 1300 shotgun (deer and turkey)with a 22 inch barrel. However, I would like to try duck/goose hunting this year.
Can I get away with a 22 inch gun? What kind of choke/shot size would be best with this gun?

The problem in Walkerton is from a particular strain of e-coli. We all have e-coli in our guts, as do deer, cattle and any number of animals. As I said, the problem there is this one type. This type is particularly dangerous to people. Other types of e-coli can make us sick, but this one can kill you. They believe it's present in about 10% of cattle, and is really no problem as far as eating the meat, as long as the cow was slaughtered in clean, sterile conditions (ie. none of the gut contents are allowed to contact the meat)
Clean your deer properly, and you should have no problem.

Didn't anybody tell these monkeys that the challenge by the province of C-68 was lost on the basis of jurisdiction of firearms. Thus I don't think the City of Toronto Councilor probably will not have the authority to institute an amnesty.
On that other side of things that I do know, everytime new legislation is passed an amnesty is provided for the disposal of "unwanted" firearms. The average response from people who don't know the law is the fear of the law and "out of my hands ASAP" not considering the potential of generating $$$$$.
Last year there was a six (6) month Federal Amnesty in place due to the coming into force of C-68. How many news agencies reported that last year or today?????
I think you hit it on the head with the re-election twist. The Provincial NDP enacted legislation to provide photo ID to purchase ammunition, because that's the only think "they" could do. The Feds. were getting all the attention from the upcoming C-68 and the Provincial boys "needed" to show they were doing something as well.
Why is it that when ever politicians step into this quagmare of ours they always seem to be chasing their tails.

They're budgeting $50,000 with hopes of getting 10,000 guns off the street. Fat chance. Any crook with an illegal weapon isn't going to part with it for 50 bucks. They also aren't going to worry about a PL or PAL (wouldn't our wonderful registration system weed them out anyway?)
It's just another publicity stunt by politicians who are only interested in BS'ing the significant segment of the population who can't think for themselves! Doesn't hurt that the amnesty program proposal comes to fruition just before the Municipal Elections either. Wanna bet that the biggest proponents of the amnesty will be the one's standing for re-election?

Ignorance breeds sentimental view of bears
Al Dorans The Ottawa Citizen
The emotional sensationalism of the Citizen headline, "Bullets fly as Hull police gun down black bear" (July 13) suggests that police engaged in a wild shooting spree, instead of protecting the public as they did. The term "gun down" implies the cold-blooded killing of a defenseless creature. Such media bias must be curbed.
Bears are not cute, cuddly little teddy bears. They are dangerous carnivores at the top of the food chain. The family of Olympic biathlon shooter Mary Beth Cooper, who was mauled to death by a bear, knows this all too well.
Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology reported that in 1998, Sudbury had 15 nuisance bear calls. That number soared to 311 in 1999. For Sault Ste. Marie, the increase was from 28 to 67 in one year. In Bracebridge, nuisance bear calls rose from eight to 128. In Parry Sound, the increase went from 18 to 99. In North Bay, 14 nuisance-bear calls were reported in 1998, while 91 were recorded in 1999.
To overcome the lack of tolerance urbanites seem to have for this particularly rural problem, folks in Sudbury generated an idea that might win the empathy of city dwellers. They suggested that 22 hungry bears be captured in Sudbury, loaded on trucks and released in Queen's Park so that Torontonians might appreciate the Sudbury bear problem first hand.
Neighbour Heather Richardson described the police actions as a "wild shootout," and said they just "blew it away" and police should not have been "cowboys" about it.
Her suggestion was that the bear should have been relocated. Perhaps the ideal spot would have been Heather's backyard.

Even if its very cold but little wind, I am seldom cold. If it's very windy, raining or snowing hard I tend to stay out of my stan on those days anyway. These are not usually the most productive days for sitting in a stand. I believe the deer tend hold up on these days too.

Just remember to practice with your bow with all those extra clothes on. Hate to have the big fellow right under you in range and when you take the shot you realize your bowstring rubs on your big jacket, or fanny pack when you shoot. Practice like you hunt. Good luck.

I sit in heavy clothes but peel a few layers when it gets time to walk and hunt around 10:30am.I use toe warmers on the outside of my boots, wear a fleece hand warmer with heat pack around my waste and a good wool hat.I hunt the third week in November when it`s making ice and I can stay quiet and comfortable. yes layering is good but even a outter shell of something water proff is better but how long are you really going to stay when it is that cold ???? when it is that cold we do alot of still hunting but the best thing in the stand is what is called isometricts(sp) you learn to flex your muscles this will keep you very warm and there is no movment involved with it hope this helps ps the best thing is a good pair of boots

I plan to be doing some deer hunting this year with my new Exomag bow and was thinkin about getting some warm camo for the long stints in the stand. Ive been to a few places and it looks like everything is either Gortex or Hydro-tech. The Gortex stuff was more than twice the price and Im just wondering if its really worth it? Do any of you guys find your self in a stand in December?? Can you get away with just good layering??

We will likely bring a pile of old donuts, syrup and honey for one bait site, but we have a line on an area that has had a lot of recent bear sightings in recently harvested areas. We are more interested in sitting on our buts watching cuts and shorelines as well as staking out berry patches than we are in sitting over a bait can. We are up for seven days, with 3 hunters so someone will be delegated to freshen the bait site and watch for bears daily while the other 2 hike around and try to walk one up. Whats your prefered method?

I inquired with someone who knew about the situation. Apparently in the spring turkey season of 99, the owner and a client were charged for shooting a turkey from a roadway, and also for illegally tagging the bird. Whoever shot the bird did not tag it, apparently another person did, which is illegal in turkey hunting because party hunting is not allowed. From what I was told, the bird was in the yard of someone's house and was shot from the roadway. The bird may have been shot originally and therefore wounded, but I again, I don't know for sure.

Gentlemen,
Lots of speculative rumours floating around this particular thread. I have hunted with and known Rob the owner of Woods and Water for 4 years. Firstly, the game farm he operates is fully licensed and legal in every way. The terrain where the hunting ranch is located is tough terrain. I have hunted his parcel for Grouse and the size of the enclosed area is huge. All exotic game purchased is through registered government bonded breeders and is COMPLETELY legal. The choice to hunt an animal in this fashion is completely legal the choice is yours , Rob gives you the area to hunt your game of choice in a challenging setting wether it be wild boar or farm bred mule deer. The operation is completely legal and the MNR has given its blessing after reviewing the property. I consider Rob a good friend and cannot sit by and let ignorant accusations and falsehoods about his business get printed on a forum such as this one. You may think this type of hunting is wrong or unfair but that is your opinion! Woods and Water operates in a legal manner and is run by one hell of a dedicated sportsmen!! Just thought I'd set the record straight,
Regards, WEST

Cool pistol, Kern. What do think about them making it in a left hand action, for more rapid cycling for us right hand shooters? Kinda like feeding a magazine with the left hand while maintaining full grip with the right.
They were using S&W Model 29 stainless in 44 mag. One appeared to have the standard 8 1/2" bbl, while the other was a special production hunting pistol, with a 12" bbl and carrying sling. Both pistols were scoped. I don't recall them saying what power the scopes were, but unless it was some minimal magnification, like a 1.5X or 2.5X it would seem to me to be a problem at the short range (30 yds.) they were shooting. Personally, I think I'd prefer iron sights or maybe even an Aimpoint type sight, for that up close and personal type shooting. Though I think the S&W or Ruger Redhawk 44 would be equal choice of gun for me. I'd likely even use my old Ruger Blackhawk 44 mag, 10".
So, what's your dream hunt, Kern?

Hey, everyone. I wrote below that my dream hunt would be to hunt wild boar with a handgun. Sunday night, on Advantage Outdoors, Wade Bourne did just that. They used cur dogs to locate the boars, which usually holed up in some palmetto bush. They then had to go in and chase the boar out into the open, hoping the dog could bay the boar again, in the open. There is a real possibility that the boar will take a run at you in this situation! Once in the open, it was very difficult to get a clear shot on the boar, because the dog was in there like a dirty shirt! Range was about 30 yards. Wade Bourne made it clear that this was a pretty tense hunt, and that he much preferred to use a .308 and keep some distance from his quarry.
Funny part of the show was when they captured a 200 lb. wild boar by hand! No tranquilizer, just grab a leg! It was a "mule-footed" boar, which is a descendant of the original pigs that the Spanish brought to America, but has a mule (horse) shaped hoof, instead of a cloven hoof. They wanted to relocate it to another island, to breed with some similar sows, in hopes of building up a population.
I taped the show and only had a chance to watch it last night. I'm glad I taped it, because I will be watching it again, for sure.
Anyway, I wanted to know what anybody else's dream hunt would be.

I`m not familiar with that area but I would expect it to be heavily hunted due to the close proximity to some larger centers. We just had another car moose collision fifteen minutes north of the Sault, there`s two or three every year at the same location. We usually have a few moose run through the city every year, it`s not that uncommon to drive north to Wawa and see them along the highway. What ever area you decide on a topo map would be an asset.

The high density deer areas would be the areas east of Sault Ste. Marie from Echo Bay eastward.
St.Joseph Island and Manitoulin Island have the highest concentrated deer population but both are primarily private land.

CAPTIAN IS RIGHT. I use a crossbow and its not by choice, after a feak injury to my shoulder. Im unable to pull a conventional bow back. If not for a crossbow, my archery hunting would be over. The thought of that would send this hunter into a deep deep hole. In short , the crossbows range is comparible to a conventional bows range.(20-30 yards) But a hunt is still a hunt. if you cant hunt and get into "bow range". even a crossbow will not do the job. Not that I want to take sides here between Challenger & Winchester, but make sure you are comparing the same load. I find Remington packs large payloads - 1 7/8 oz on some of their steel loads, which will pattern nice but wont give you much range and fps @ the muzzle is lost as well. I look for loads in the 1 3/8 to 1 5/8 oz. as these usually give you the best muzzle velocities and as we all know with steel, the bottom line is speed kills. If you look at anyones HV Steel loads, they will all be 1 3/8 oz or smaller. BTW these sizes are all for 10 ga steel - not much help to 12 ga shooters but the same applies to the smaller gauges.

I too used the 3" #2's on ducks last year and found them a bit better on range than the winchester shells. I used 3 1/2" remington T shot on Canadas but will be trying the 3" BB Challengers this year on them.

I am going to do wet phone book tests to see results. I am only pushing them at a calculated velocity of 2650-2700fps. This is on the low spectrum as the max load I have listed at 3050fps or thereabouts. I'll let you know what happens.

I used 180 gr ballistics loaded to 2470 fps in my 30-06 almost exclusively between 1984 and 1991. I shot 11 deer and one moose with them during this period, and they always performed perfectly, with only 1 deer travelling as far as 70 yds from the point of impact - most dropping on the spot. I shot 2 more with this load last year, with similar results.
The only problem I had was one year, after reading a bunch of US propaganda, I tried 150 grainers. These bullets over penetrated because of the high velocity and (I believe) light weight that didn't allow the plunger tip to perform as designed. Both deer required lengthy tracking jobs, and one deer wasn't recovered.
My advice is to deep six the 150's, and use 180's with a reduced load.

I shot the Challenger load last year. 3" number 2's all season on ducks and geese. Shot the BB's on geese as well. The 2's patterened awesome through my Benelli with an I.C. choke. Very fast load, over 1450 fps. Speed is what you need now with steel. The faster it is, the more downrange energy you have, which relates to knockdown power.
Not sure if any of you guys have ever bought the "Supreme" shotgun shells from Canadian Tire. They were 13.99 for a box of twenty. Half way through the season they want down to 11.99 a box. Well if ya didn't, here is a tip for ya.............they're Challengers!!! The exact same load, but quite a bit cheaper. The only problem is that they are not making them for CTC anymore. I hit all the CTC's in my area and bought up all I could. Got about 4 flats now. Might want to look into it.

Never used them on Waterfowl. I patterned a box of 2's out of my gun and they shot terrible. That's not to say they won't shoot well out of the next gun. Best thing to do is get a box and pattern through your own gun and the decide. Good luck and good hunting.

They're a good buy, they're cheap and it's a Canadian company. You'll like these shells, they're all I ever buy!

Thought I'd give Challenger steel loads a try this year, was wondering what you guys think of them. Anybody use them on a regular basis last year? How did they perform? Yardage and accuracy etc. I'm going to use mainly 3" for ducks and geese if they work out. Any comments or tips would be greatly apprecited!!!

We're working on getting the responses in a more timely manner. The problem has been twofold. 1), the volume of questions and 2), MNR staff being inundated with other work. Also, many of the questions being asked are not appropriate. I've now started to ignore these totally as it is just too time consuming to send email to someone suggesting they check local clubs or the district office for an answer to, say, "where is the best place for hunting groundhogs in the London area". We are behind about a month's worth of questions right now. I hope to have this backlog cleared shortly.

Just recently started visiting this site. Seems like a great hunting resource and will continue to drop in.
I had a question concerning the "Ask the CO" link. This is a fantastic idea and a great way to obtain information from our CO's on things that are not always covered, or clear in the regualtions. My question was, how often do they update this page? It is a great idea but not much good if the questions don't get answered. I don't believe the questions have been answered for several months now. Just curious whether I should give the local CO a call for my questions or wait.
Anyways, thanks for the great site and I look forward to spending more time here.

Tried some 35 grain V-Max in my Ruger Hornet.Have sent several chucks to the big hayfield in the sky with it.Like you said, they are very explosive and show much improved performance over the 45 grain softpoints I used to use . I have also dusted several crows with them out in the corn field back in the spring before the corn sprouted.....they just go poof in a big black cloud of feathers and several were almost blown in two ( our cat never had it so good).....my friend has a Remington 700 stainless Varmint Synthetic in .220 Swift and he's going to get some V-max to try . Well funny you should ask, ...... I just started using the 95gr. Hornady VMax for ground hogs. What performance !!!! I have taken four with these rounds and have been impressed so , that I'm thinking of writing the company.
One was a chest and shoulder shot. Kind of hard to distinguish due to the damage. Effectively severed the shoulder. The other three were head shots two standing and one in the borrow. The ballistic performance on the head is incredable. (you know the old saying, "this your brain on drugs" ? well I have a new saying, "this is your brain on grass" ) Yes I'm being graffic, but the performance is very graffic.
If a bullet is ever able to ""explode" (with out having a secondary charge - artillery) then this is it. The velocity & resistance driving that polymertip into the bullet which causes the rapid expansion does give the appearance of explosion.
That said , ... I'm not sure if I'd want to use it on a "game" animal for the freezer. The performance should "take" the game but I'm wondereing out loud if there might be too much destroyed meat.
(don't worry, no ground hogs were harmed in the usage of these VMax. - they didn't feel a thing)
Tack

You'll recall a couple of weeks ago I posted a question about whether paint-ball guns which fire over 500 fps would need to be registered, restricted or prohibited. Here is the (non)answer from CFS. I guess the first paragraph answers it, but not very clearly, and doesn't indicate whether CFS is actually going to actively begin a campaign to register these "firearms".
RESPONSE TO ENQUIRY : Thank you for your request for information. Air guns that fire at a muzzle velocity of over 500 feet per second are considered firearms and as such they must be registered and a licence is required to possess or acquire them.
If the devices are designed, altered or intented to be discharged with the use of one hand, they are handguns and therefore restricted firearms. In the event that the air guns in question fire under 500 feet per second, you may wish to know that some low velocity air guns are considered replica firearms and as such are prohibited devices. A replica is a device that looks like a firearm but does not meet the definition of a firearm. In the case of airsoft guns, they will not meet the definition of a firearm if they are unable to cause serious bodily injury or death. Airsoft guns that either do not look like firearms or are able to cause serious bodily injury or death are not prohibited.
I hope the above is of assistance to you. You may also wish to review our fact sheet on Air guns in the information for owners and users section on our web site at www.cfc.gc.ca Julie Besner

Last night I made a trip to a dump near Harcourt Ontario. Mr Bear, I'd guess about 150 -200 lbs Male was
there. I stepped out, he backed of to about 40 ft. I started to unload, keeping one eye on the bruin. As i worked
away, he seemed content feeding on garbage, and I wasn't unloading food, so I let down my guard.
I turned to find him less than 20 ft away, again feeding on garbage. I figured that was a little too close so I hollered
at him, and he backed off to 40 ft again.
I worked around to the other side of my trailer unloading, Looked up, and he's 5 feet from the drivers door of my
jeep (oops! no retreat) I scooped up a handfull of old lava rocks, and nailed him solidly in the head with one. He
rubbed his face a couple of times and ignored me!
I just waited him out, unloading around him. When I was done, he was well away from my exit, and I did. This is the making of a problem bear! He has little or no fear of humans, and is still a very young bear, he hasn't
developed that omnipotent male bear swager or size just yet. Ontario Government where is the spring bear hunt??? Will it take someone getting killed?

Im still reading up on various arrow and broadhead combinations. A 2219 with a
130 gr wasp is the recommended combination but I hear many people on the Excalibur site
including Bill the owner of Excalibur, use lighter combinations to flatten out their
trajectory.

Just to expand upon what Kern said about using Bismuth in a full choke to hunt waterfowl, lead shot can no longer be used to hunt waterfowl. Steel and Bismuth are the 2 leading alternatives, however, steel shot is very hard (Bismuth is more like lead) and won't compress when travelling through a full choke. As a result, you may get poor patterns or, worse, damage to your choke/barrel. Also, about waterfowl, I'm pretty sure that under the Migratory Game Birds Act you cannot hunt waterfowl with a .22 (and you would not want to use a .410). Shotguns only!

You can hunt almost anything with the guns you have, you just have to make every shot count as they are all single shots.
The 22/410 would make a nice rabbit and grouse gun. If your 12 ga is a fixed full choke, you would have to use Bismuth if
you want to shoot ducks and geese. The 12 can also be used on deer.

If you're going to install a sling swivel in your butt stock, start with a very small pilot hole, and, if possible, re-drill it once or twice more with a little larger bits, till you get to the size of your swivel screw. Put some bar soap or similar lubricant on the screw and tighten it in CAREFULLY! Depending on the grain in the stock, you could very easily split a piece off the bottom if you just drill it once and try to screw the swivel straight in. It's very hard wood and there is a lot of tension in the grain.

Well said. An excellent letter that, unfortunately, legislators will probably completely overlook in their quest for political grandstanding. Usually the mainstream media paints firearms owners in the camo-clad Billy-Bob Jethro mold as a bunch of wild eyed zealots. The Sun has been stressing the fact that gun control won't stop criminals for years now. We can only hope that the message will somehow get through one day. Again - well done.

I'm curious as to what the biggest deer each of the posters on this board has seen in the past year. Personally the largest deer I saw in the past year was a hefty 8 point in late December that would likely score near the Pope and Young minimum (WMU 59 near Arnprior). I've seen the same deer again this year and hope to spot him with bow in hand come October.

The question was already asked on the Excalibur website. Bill's response was the compound limb was an attempt to crack the U.S. market. Seems that many American crossbowers find it impossible to believe that a recurve limb could perform as well as compound limb.
My opinion is simpler is still better. I can change a string on my Excalibur in less than 5 min. and the 275 ft/sec has always given me lots of power for complete pass through shots and even to crack bone. I'd stick with the Exomag or Exocet.

While turkey hunting I encountered the same buck several times. Even at the end of April he already had 8 inces of growth topped by a knuckle that I presume is where the antler was about to branch. The buck did not appear to be huge in body size. I am guessing maybe about a 3 year old. I do think he had a lot of antler development for that early in the season. I expect maybe an easy winter and early spring will combine to produce some good racks this year.

RE THE Gillian Hadley murder-suicide: How unfortunate that the first reaction of politicians like Jack Layton to this tragedy is to call for more gun control. Anyone who takes a clear look at this incident can see that gun control did not protect Gillian Hadley. A few years ago, the best friend of a co-worker was killed by her estranged husband, who then killed himself. He stabbed her to death, then asphyxiated himself with his car. Like Hadley, he had been under restraining orders, and was charged with assault and threatening prior to the murder/suicide. Yet it hardly made the news outside the city where it happened. There was no outcry from the Jack Laytons of the world, calling for more knife control, or criminal record checks for vehicle owners. Maybe, because the killer didn't use a gun, there was no benefit to politicians of that ilk. There is talk of an inquest into this tragedy. I, for one, welcome it. I hope that the inquest will focus on why gun control didn't save Gillian Hadley. Focus on why, with handgun registration being mandatory for over 60 years, Ralph Hadley was able to get one - illegally. Of course, the answers to these questions are simple, because criminals don't register their guns. The toughest question that the inquest should be asked is, why do our elected officials continue to focus on the methods, the tools, rather than the reasons behind the violence in the first place? Shot, stabbed, strangled, beaten or poisoned, Gillian Hadley and others like her are still just as dead. Let's focus on why it happened, how it happened, instead of the device used to accomplish it. Martin Fischer Kitchener (Yes, let's take the focus off guns and gun control, which - no matter what your views on that - is NOT what this tragedy is about)
